For decades, Guinea’s fuel importation and distribution sector was dominated by a handful of international corporations. But since 2015, one local company has been steadily changing the balance of power.

KP formerly known as Kamsar Petroleum is proving that with technical expertise, operational discipline, and a business model adapted to African realities, a “Made in Guinea” company can compete in even the most strategic sectors of the economy.

Behind this success story are two African professionals: mining engineer Louis Camara and petroleum engineer Mohamed Julien Ndao. Drawing from their international and local experience, the founders identified a major gap in the market: Guinea needed a fuel distribution network that genuinely understood the realities of its industries, transport sector, and population.

From Kamsar Petroleum to KP: Building a National Network

What started as an ambitious local venture has evolved into one of Guinea’s fastest-growing fuel distribution brands. Rebranded as “KP” in 2022, the company now operates around fifteen service stations throughout the country.

From major districts of Conakry such as Minière, Nongo, and Gbessia to strategic mining corridors in Boffa, Boké, and Kamsar, KP has established itself as a recognizable national brand.

But the company’s ambitions go far beyond retail fuel sales.

With its own tanker fleet and mobile fuel solutions known as “Transtanks,” KP directly supplies mining operators, industrial sites, and corporate clients operating in isolated areas. In doing so, the company has positioned itself as a strategic infrastructure partner supporting Guinea’s industrial expansion.

Local Content in Practice: Investing in People

What truly differentiates KP from many foreign competitors is its strong local-content philosophy.

The company plays an active role within the Association for the Promotion of Local Content in Guinea (APCLG), and its commitments are visible on the ground: more than 90% of employees across its operations are young Guineans.

This commitment extends beyond the energy sector itself.

KP is the main sponsor of Club Industriel de Kamsar (CIK), while co-founder Louis Camara has served since 2020 as president of ASM Sangarédi, a historic football club originally founded by mining workers.

The company also demonstrated its social commitment during national crises. At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, KP donated one billion Guinean francs to the ANSS in support of Guinea’s emergency response efforts.

Today, every liter distributed by KP represents more than fuel.

It symbolizes a broader shift toward economic sovereignty proving that a Guinean company can combine international operational standards, strict HSSE safety practices, digital innovation such as Orange Money integration, and a strong commitment to national development.
