Progress status of key national projects

We often hear about the billions invested in the “Simandou 2040” program, but what is actually happening on the ground? Today, Guinea has become a massive construction site. To reassure investors and inform citizens, the authorities have released a detailed update on the progress of major infrastructure projects. The era of promises is over—construction is now underway.
For economic development to be real, it requires roads, electricity, and ports. The Simandou 2040 program is progressing simultaneously across multiple strategic sectors.
Projects already completed or nearing completion
The program’s biggest achievement is located along the coast. The strategic integrated Simandou hub at Morébaya Port is now 100% complete. This infrastructure, already inaugurated and fully operational, is set to significantly boost mineral and agricultural exports.
Other major projects are also nearing completion. The long-awaited expansion of Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport (Phase 1) is 95% complete, with commissioning expected soon.
In Kankan, the Mamaya cultural complex is 90% complete, with final finishing works underway. It will soon provide a modern space for the promotion of Guinean arts and traditions.
Energy: the backbone of growth
No industrial economy can function without electricity. The government is currently deploying several major energy projects to support national development:
- Amaria Hydroelectric Plant (300 MW): 53% complete, this plant will significantly strengthen the national power grid.
- Siguiri Thermal Plant (16 MW): 75% complete, it will provide essential energy support to one of the country’s most dynamic economic zones.
- Loffa Hydroelectric Plant (2.5 MW): Still in early development (27%), it will supply localized electricity access.
Industrial transformation and improved living standards
Guinea is finally beginning the local transformation of its mineral resources. Construction of the country’s first alumina refinery in Dobali has started (15%), alongside the SPIC refinery project in Boffa (5%).
Beyond industry, living conditions are also being reshaped. The Lake Gbassikolo development has reached 60% completion, while the Cité Niger project in Faranah (66%) is gradually entering operational phases.
Finally, behind the scenes, institutional reforms are also advancing. The new Insurance Code is 50% complete in its design phase, promising a safer and more structured business environment.
The country is moving forward—and the numbers speak for themselves.
